How Lakeland School District unifies 9 locations, 1,500 students, and over 3,000 daily device connections—all under a single, license-free network infrastructure

Lakeland School District, serving about 1,500 K–12 students and 200 staff across nine locations in northeast Indiana, needed a network that could support a 1:1 learning initiative, tight public-school budgets, and limited IT staff. The district also wanted predictable long-term costs, minimal licensing, and a scalable platform that could grow with future Wi-Fi and switching needs. Ubiquiti’s UniFi ecosystem was chosen to help unify networking and security while keeping management simple.

Ubiquiti implemented UniFi across Wi-Fi, switching, cameras, and door access under a license-free model, giving the district a self-managed system that was easier to deploy and troubleshoot. The result was a more scalable and budget-friendly infrastructure with hardware designed to last five to ten years, avoid recurring seat fees, and allow quick device swap-outs. Lakeland also gained the ability to monitor and adjust the network remotely, including from a phone, improving day-to-day IT efficiency.
