Ohio Department of Youth Services expands youth transportation with Uber, serving 4% of parole youth

The Ohio Department of Youth Services (Ohio DYS) faced a significant challenge in providing justice-involved youth with reliable transportation to critical appointments like work, school, and counseling. This mobility barrier risked missed court dates and parole revocation. To address this, Ohio DYS partnered with Uber for Business to implement a scalable transportation solution.

Using the Uber for Business voucher program, Uber provided a controlled and compliant system where eligible youth received weekly ride credits. The solution offered transparent billing, with the agency only charged for completed trips, and resulted in higher attendance at jobs and appointments. Uber for Business empowered the youth by teaching independence and is planned for a statewide expansion after a successful pilot.
