Comparative Effectiveness of an Integrated, Multi-functional Telehealth Examination Device to Standard of Care Digital Devices in a Pediatric Setting

University of Virginia Health System partnered with TytoCare to evaluate whether remote pediatric visits could be supported with reliable diagnostic data. The health system’s challenge was to provide care for children remotely while still giving clinicians dependable information for assessment, including vital signs, ear exams, and heart and lung evaluation.

TytoCare implemented its integrated, FDA-cleared telehealth examination platform, including otoscope, stethoscope, thermometer, camera, and video capabilities, for use in a pediatric clinic study comparing it with standard digital devices. In tests with 50 pediatric patients reviewed by 8 blinded physicians, TytoCare produced higher-quality images and sounds that were sufficient for diagnosis and statistically superior overall, with an average Likert score of 2.80 versus 3.39 for standard tools and significant results across heart, lung, and ear assessments (p = 0.00).
