A Tyler Technologies Case Study
Twin Rivers Unified School District, a North Highlands, California public district serving 32,000 students across 58 sites and 127 square miles, faced a fragmented transportation operation after a 2008 merger. With handwritten routes, frequent late or missed trips, poor driver accountability and inefficient field-trip processes, the transportation department lacked the tools to plan, monitor and run a large, centralized system. After a 2015 search, Twin Rivers selected Tyler’s Versatrans suite to modernize its operation.
By implementing Versatrans Routing & Planning, Onscreen GPS/AVL, Triptracker, My Stop, Fleetvision, e-Link and other modules, the district visualized and optimized routes, went paperless for trips, improved parent communication and consolidated operations to a single terminal. Those changes reduced routes and operating costs by more than $750,000, cut phone traffic and staff time, and produced data that helped secure a $7.5 million grant to purchase 16 electric buses—resulting in the district’s nationally leading electric fleet.
