A Tyler Technologies Case Study
Boston Public Schools, a large urban district in Boston with 125 schools and about 57,000 students, faced a recurring transportation headache: the day-before-Thanksgiving early dismissals. Because each school released at different times, drivers were often reassigned to unfamiliar routes, causing confusion, late buses and inefficient use of the fleet on an already complex day.
BPS and its bus contractor created a one-day custom routing database using Tyler’s Versatrans, allowing multiple Transportation Officers to edit a single plan and accurately reflect each school’s dismissal. The electronic route map ensured efficient timing and clear communication; 97.8% of trips were on time, turning a once-chaotic day into one of the department’s best-performing days and a process the district plans to repeat for other special schedules.
