Reducing Fatal Overdoses With Technology

Tyler Technologies partnered with Macomb County, Michigan, to confront a severe opioid crisis — the county saw 380 fentanyl deaths in 2017 and experiences more than one overdose death per day. Dispatchers and first responders needed faster, more complete information and better coordination to manage unconscious or non-breathing calls and protect both patients and personnel.

Using Tyler’s integrated computer-aided dispatch (CAD) with mobile CAD, automatic vehicle location (AVL), mapping, and special response instructions (SRIs), dispatchers can view prior incidents at an address, create alerts for high-risk locations or people, and identify units carrying NARCAN. The system improved response times, data sharing, and responder safety, allowing resources to be targeted more effectively and helping improve patient outcomes and save lives.
