A Tyler Technologies Case Study
The City of Rancho Mirage, California (municipal government of about 18,300 residents and 100 employees) was hampered by a 20‑year‑old legacy system that forced paper-based processing across departments, made reporting nearly impossible, and left purchasing and payroll slow and error‑prone—purchase requisitions took about three weeks for approval and payroll relied on handwritten timesheets and manual leave tracking.
In 2017 the city implemented Tyler Munis after site visits to reference clients and partnered with Tyler on a structured rollout with role‑based permissions and dedicated training space. The move to Munis (including Employee Self Service) made requisition approvals digital and mobile—cutting turnaround to about one week—automated timesheets and leave tracking, and delivered real‑time dashboards and Excel exports for easier reporting; the city is now extending efficiencies with EnerGov for permitting and inspections.
