Progressive Recorder’s Office Takes New Strides to Protect County Records

Erie County Recorder’s Office in Sandusky, Ohio, a small but progressive county government agency, needed a more modern, stable records-management solution after its long-time vendor stopped investing in the product. The office sought to digitize more records, streamline recording workflows, and improve public access to documents while ensuring long‑term data protection and disaster readiness.

In 2015 the county adopted Tyler Technologies’ Eagle, gaining flexible workflows, individualized workstations, and citizen self-service kiosks and online access. The changes let staff scan, record, accept payment, and return documents at the counter, eliminated mailing and postage costs, improved cash-drawer accountability, and enabled eRecording (currently 20% of volume, with a 50% goal). Combined with SaaS backups and microfilm, Eagle delivered measurable efficiency, better customer service, and stronger records protection.
