New Jersey Office of Information Technology improves child care transparency with Tyler Technologies, covering 3,611 licensed centers

The New Jersey Office of Information Technology faced the challenge of making critical child care data transparent and accessible to the public. They partnered with vendor Tyler Technologies to move beyond static spreadsheets and create a streamlined, cloud-based application for citizens to easily find and evaluate licensed child care centers.

Tyler Technologies implemented a cloud computing solution called the Licensed Child Care Explorer. This open data portal allows parents to search, compare, and view inspection reports for over 3,600 licensed centers. The solution enabled monthly data updates and gave the Department of Children and Families independent management of the system. The results include empowered families making informed choices and the data's integration into the statewide Grow NJ Kids quality rating system.
