A Tyler Technologies Case Study
Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman set out to modernize a fiscally important but outdated system that managed the county’s roughly $3.8 billion budget and payroll for 14,000 employees. The office struggled with a “patchwork” of legacy systems, low staffing, and time-consuming manual reporting—analysts were spending up to two hours a day producing basic reports—limiting transparency and public access to financial data.
The comptroller implemented Tyler Technologies’ Socrata Connected Government Cloud to centralize finance data and publish public-facing apps (Open Budget, Open Payroll) and a financial scorecard. The platform now powers 32 open datasets, nine data stories and interactive reports that refresh in seconds, producing an estimated 250 hours of analyst time saved annually, fostering a more data-driven culture and greater transparency for residents and stakeholders.
