A Tyler Technologies Case Study
The Montana Department of Revenue’s Property Assessment Division, which oversees fair valuation across all 56 counties and employs about 170 appraisers, faced mounting pressure from budget constraints, planned closure of 29 county offices, and a statewide paperless mandate. The division needed a mobile, accurate, and consistent way to support teleworking appraisers, eliminate duplicate data entry, and maintain productivity while managing widely dispersed rural parcels.
Working with long-time vendor Tyler, Montana implemented Orion Field Mobile through a phased, customized rollout (configuration, development, field testing and full implementation in late 2018). The mobile app lets appraisers access records, capture photos and sketches, and compile secure digital parcels in the field, saving an estimated 10–30 minutes per parcel, reducing operating expenses, minimizing disruption from office closures, and boosting confidence and accuracy in assessments.
