Memphis uses Socrata to improve communication, decisions, and collaboration

The City of Memphis launched a data-driven strategic plan to boost transparency, accountability, and decision-making, but initially struggled with siloed information, manual spreadsheets, single-user access, and slow, static reporting. COVID-19 and the need to share data with county and health partners intensified the pressure to do more with less and provide timely, accurate information to 1.4 million residents.

Memphis implemented Tyler Technologies’ Socrata Connected Government Cloud and launched the Memphis Data Hub (October 2019) to centralize, automate, and secure data feeds, enable visualization and mapping, and integrate with tools like PowerBI. The solution reduced manual reporting, improved cross-department collaboration, and drove strong public engagement—15,600 users and 137,000 pageviews in the first three months—culminating in the 2020 Tyler Excellence Award.
