McKinney unlocks permitting data to enhance community development and services

The City of McKinney, Texas — a rapidly growing community of about 200,000 — faced strained development services after decades of population and construction growth. To replace slow, paper-based workflows and improve transparency and predictability for residents and developers, McKinney adopted Tyler’s EnerGov platform in 2017 and created a Strategic Services team to unlock and operationalize its data.

Using EnerGov, GIS integration and automated dashboards, the team replaced manual reports with public-facing maps, interactive apps and a 24/7 Citizen Self Service portal, giving staff and constituents easy access to actionable information. The results include faster, more predictable permitting (residential permit turnaround dropped from ~20 days to 4), empowered staff able to monitor productivity and workflows, fewer information requests, and better data-driven decision-making for city leaders.
