Denton County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 faced rising demand for online access to court services that was sharply accelerated when the COVID-19 pandemic eliminated in‑person appearances. The court needed a way to preserve access to justice and prevent a massive case backlog while managing an already heavy caseload.
Working with Tyler, the court implemented Modria online dispute resolution integrated with its Odyssey case management system. The ODR platform empowered self‑represented litigants to engage in the process, reduced staff burden, and kept the court operating safely. Within months, more than two‑thirds of disputes were resolved when both parties participated, many cases settled for amounts lower than the original claims, and the court advanced to an “Advanced Electronic” e‑court maturity level.
