Preview of the Alameda County Case Study

Launched a First-of-its-kind Integrated Pretrial Process for Collaborating in Real-time With Justice Partners

Alameda County Probation Department partnered with Tyler Technologies after receiving state funding to evaluate and modernize local pretrial processes with goals of increasing safe, efficient pretrial release, using minimally restrictive monitoring, expanding validated assessment tools, and identifying bias. The challenge was to design and deploy new case-management features that let probation and court partners collaborate in real time on pretrial decisions.

Working with Tyler, the county implemented a first-of-its-kind Tyler Supervision pretrial component in just five months that automatically notifies probation on arrests, queues crime details for a validated risk assessment, and digitally forwards findings to a pretrial judge. The solution streamlined the workflow, enabled delivery of assessments and statistical analyses directly to decision-makers, and established an “all electronic” environment that improved speed, transparency, and data-driven pretrial decisionmaking.
