A Tyler Technologies Case Study
Lake County, Illinois (population 703,000) needed to modernize a fragmented permitting process that relied on 13 non‑integrated legacy systems, paper workflows and duplicated customer interactions. The county sought an enterprise solution to unify permitting, planning, licensing, inspections and code enforcement, enable online applications and payments, and improve communication across departments and with local partners.
Lake County selected and went live with Tyler’s EnerGov (March 27, 2017) plus Citizen Self Service, mobile apps and EnerGov Assist to create a one‑stop permitting platform. Results include 25% of planning/building permit applications and nearly 50% of temporary food permits submitted online, more than $4,500 saved per replaced device by switching to iPads, over $300,000 saved by not refilling support positions, reduced paper use, and stronger cross‑department and interjurisdictional collaboration.
