A Tyler Technologies Case Study
The City of Kansas City, Missouri (population ~500,000; ~3,500 employees) faced fragmented community development services across nine departments that relied on four legacy systems, creating redundant processes, poor data sharing, and a frustrating multi-step experience for customers who often had to visit multiple offices or use fax. After going live with EnerGov in 2018, city leaders needed a way to build cross-departmental trust, streamline workflows, and improve access to permitting and licensing services.
KCMO implemented Tyler’s EnerGov (branded CompassKC) with a Citizen Self Service portal to centralize permits, plan reviews, inspections, payments and data sharing. The result: eliminated procedural redundancies, faster cross-agency collaboration and cost/time savings for staff and finance, 5,349 CSS registrations in the first 18 months, and nearly 2,400 fewer annual walk-in customers while maintaining the same permitting workload.
