Improving Control of Software Upgrades to Gain Flexibility

Mount Airy City Schools in North Carolina faced significant challenges in safely returning to in-person instruction during the 2020 pandemic. The district's outdated transportation software, which relied on pen and paper, was inefficient and struggled to manage changing routes and conduct crucial contact tracing. This created delays and increased the risk of COVID-19 exposure for students on its buses.

The district implemented Tyler Technologies’ Student Transportation software and Tyler Drive tablets. This solution provided drivers with real-time route updates and enabled detailed student ridership tracking and electronic seating charts for effective contact tracing. As a result, Tyler Technologies helped Mount Airy bring students back safely, reduce ride times, and achieve cost savings by using fewer buses. Their success paved the way for the software's adoption by 24 additional school districts in the state.
