A Tyler Technologies Case Study
Henderson, Nevada, a rapidly growing and award-winning city, needed to modernize how it managed address and permitting data without disrupting existing workflows. Its planner was entering addresses into a legacy permitting system that relied on nightly scripts and flat files for GIS updates, and the new permitting software required spatial address data — but the city didn’t want to retrain non‑GIS staff or buy widespread ArcGIS licenses.
Henderson adopted an Esri-based approach—extending ArcGIS with a tool called The Addresser and leveraging ArcGIS Online, Server and other Esri apps—so planners could input addresses directly into the GIS and updates would flow via web services instead of nightly scripts. The work earned a 2017 Esri SAG award, produced 17 public-facing apps and a public GIS portal, supported a 220‑user internal CityView system growing ~25% annually, and drove thousands of monthly page views while increasing data transparency, efficiency, and public access to city information.
