Efficient Building Permit Processing Results in Increased Revenue and Saved Time

Saint Louis County Department of Assessment partnered with Tyler Technologies to address inefficiencies in processing roughly 45,000 building permits a year. Permits were previously handled in a legacy, stand‑alone system separate from iasWorld’s CAMA, creating parallel databases, problematic annual data conversions, printing/report issues, a growing backlog, and limited field access for appraisers—hindering timely revenue recovery and accurate property records.

In 2012 the county moved permit processing into Tyler’s iasWorld, customized permit templates, and used PL/SQL routines to migrate existing and Public Works data into a single database. The integration put permits on each Property Record Card, sped data retrieval and analysis, reduced processing steps and paper, and set the county on track to eliminate the backlog, improve accuracy, save staff time, and recover additional revenue.
