A Tyler Technologies Case Study
The Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor’s Office in California, a Tyler Eagle user, issues more than 3,200 marriage licenses annually and struggled with a manual-signature process that required signatures from the couple, witnesses, officiant and staff. Missing staff signatures caused time-consuming research, reissuance of certified copies, and legal or benefits delays for newlyweds, so the office sought a way to reduce errors and speed processing.
Using Tyler’s Eagle digitized-signature capability—with password-protected, user-specific signatures and a state-approved pilot—the county applied 3,818 electronic staff signatures during the trial, eliminated an estimated 6,700 manual signatures per year, saved roughly 18.5 staff hours annually, and greatly reduced signature omissions. The successful pilot led the state to authorize digitized signatures statewide, improving accuracy, efficiency and customer service.
