Creative use of software allows for creation of district-wide student shuttle service

Township High School District 214 in Arlington Heights, Illinois, serves about 11,800 students across many programs and locations. Confronted with dozens of schedule permutations—and during the COVID‑19 pandemic the urgent need to safely and quickly move nearly 12,000 students to more than 25 program sites—the district needed a flexible, easy-to-manage routing system that staff could learn and adapt to daily schedule changes.

The district migrated from Versatrans to Tyler’s Traversa, creating a district‑wide shuttle model using 65 student shuttles, new accessible stops, and the Traversa Ride 360 app for real‑time updates. The new system lets students set custom transportation without contacting the office, reduced calls to transportation, improved social‑distancing and after‑school access, and enabled faster communication of delays and route changes to families and staff.
