County Collaborates with Tyler to Distribute Accurate Tax Billing for New City

DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office, based in Decatur, Georgia, serves a population of about 740,000 and has used Tyler’s iasWorld since 2012. When a newly incorporated city within the county required special tax treatment, an existing assessment freeze and millage adjustments threatened billing accuracy for more than 10,000 parcels and left a new digest team facing a compressed deadline.

Working with Tyler and county IT, staff found the district millage equivalent calculation relied on frozen assessed values and implemented a scripted overwrite of those values with current assessments in iasWorld; after a few hours of testing the change could be applied broadly without manual intervention. The fix let the county meet the state digest, issue on-time bills, deliver promised tax savings to residents, avoid separate billing for the new city, and collect more than $2 million while preserving consistent annual billing timing.
