Clark County Family Mediation Center (FMC) faced a challenge managing a high volume of contested child custody cases with limited mediator resources, leading to long wait times for parents seeking to resolve disputes over legal custody, physical custody, and parenting plans. To improve efficiency and access, the FMC partnered with vendor Tyler Technologies to pilot its Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) system.

The solution from Tyler Technologies allowed divorcing couples to negotiate and resolve their disputes online. The results were significant: in the pilot, 33% of cases adopted the system, and when both parties participated, over 50% reached a full resolution online. The average negotiation time was six days, and 100% of cases using the tool were resolved outside of court hours, saving considerable time for both parents and mediators.
