City of Henderson boosts GIS access with Tyler Technologies and 17 public-facing apps

The City of Henderson, Nevada, faced a challenge when its legacy permitting system was no longer supported. The city needed a new solution that required spatial address files, but its existing process involved non-GIS staff manually entering data into a separate system, which then had to be converted nightly via scripts. Henderson sought a way to modernize this process without retraining its planning staff or purchasing additional specialized software licenses. The city enlisted vendor Tyler Technologies and implemented a new permitting solution.

Working with Tyler Technologies and an IT consultant, Henderson implemented The Addresser tool to extend its existing Esri ArcGIS database. This solution allowed a planner with no GIS knowledge to input address data directly into ArcGIS, eliminating the need for nightly script conversions. The success of this project led Henderson to further leverage GIS, creating 17 public-facing applications. These apps, which include Crime Search and Watering Groups, received 4,600 unique page views in a single month, significantly increasing data transparency and reducing the burden on the city's IT department.
