40 Cases Closed Through Connecting Data

Tyler Technologies’ New World public safety software helped the Clovis Police Department in California’s Central Valley respond to a sudden spike in vehicle burglaries. Clovis — a community that typically has low crime rates but borders higher-crime Fresno — saw dozens of break-ins in spring 2017 with a consistent modus operandi. Officers and crime analysts needed to connect disparate reports (items stolen, times, locations, camera footage and vehicle descriptions) across cases to determine whether a serial burglar was responsible.

By entering and linking case details in the New World system, analysts identified patterns that pointed to a single suspect and vehicle. Surveillance footage and a subsequent traffic stop led to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of stolen property; the investigation closed 40 cases. The project demonstrated faster case linkages, improved operations for officers and analysts, and more efficient crime-solving.
