How Environmental Health Technology Enhances City Efficiency

The City of Edina, MN — a municipal government serving more than 53,000 residents — faced a time-consuming, siloed approach to managing its environmental health programs. Staff relied on manual data transfers and multiple systems to handle complaints, licenses, inspections and code enforcement across a wide range of programs, which created administrative overhead and limited transparency.

Edina implemented Tyler’s Enterprise Environmental Health (integrated with Enterprise Permitting & Licensing), consolidating licensing, inspections and enforcement into a single platform for 10 program types (food, pools, lodging, body art, etc.). The solution automated workflows, enabled online payments and automated license delivery, improved cross-department data integration and surfaced tasks on a Hub dashboard. In a short time the city created or converted 1,400 operational permits for over 1,190 businesses and reported faster, more transparent service and increased productivity.
