The Information & eGovernment Authority (IGA Bahrain) provides more than 300 government services in the Kingdom of Bahrain and needed a way to keep internal and G2B APIs secure. As its API use grew, the team wanted authentication and authorisation, rate limiting, monitoring, and stronger control over who could access citizen and government data.
IGA Bahrain chose Tyk’s API Gateway and Management Platform, including a 1 gateway and 2 node on-premise setup for its 8 APIs. It took less than one week to implement, and the team said routine API key requests could be handled in about 15 minutes without a technical team member. After implementation, IGA Bahrain was managing around 250,000 API transactions per month, with peaks of 570,000 and up to 100 transactions per second, while also gaining traffic insight and monitoring for unusual activity.
