A Tyk Case Study
CanDIG, Canada’s Distributed Infrastructure for Genomics, needed to move beyond a monolith as its national federated health research platform grew. The team was looking for an API gateway that could provide a consistent external interface, support multiple OpenID Connect identity providers, and handle distributed authentication and authorization across sites with different local policies.
Tyk’s open source gateway became the entrypoint to CanDIG’s stack, acting as the OAuth2/OIDC relying party, authenticating requests, and helping marshal entitlement claims for policy evaluation. With Tyk, CanDIG secured access to more than 1M genomic records and connected APIs across multiple institutions while maintaining strict data governance and fine-grained security controls.
