Case Study: Kalamuna achieves 325M+ API calls and 99.88% uptime with Tyk

Delivering a modern API system that’s secure, accessible and easy to maintain

Kalamuna partnered with Tyk to replace the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s fragile legacy proxy system with a modern open source API gateway. The old custom Python application was end-of-life, difficult to maintain, and needed to stay secure, accessible, and reliable for the 511.org transit data site.

Using Tyk Gateway and Tyk Dashboard, Kalamuna built 24 JSON REST APIs, custom Go middleware, and a container-based CI/CD environment to support the new platform. Since launch in February 2023, the system has handled more than 325 million API calls with 99.88% uptime and zero outages, while maintenance and issue monitoring became much easier for the MTC.
