Walmart Customers Receive Daily Deals Over Sms

Walmart, the world’s largest grocery retailer with about 11.5K stores across 28 countries, wanted a simple way to deliver limited-time "Value of the Day" discounts to customers without blasting SMS subscribers with every Twitter update. The challenge was to integrate time-sensitive deals into a text channel while filtering out non-deal tweets.

Walmart implemented Twilio Short Code SMS as a quick proof-of-concept on a LAMP stack; the API integration took only a few hours and most effort went into QA. They added logic to ensure subscribers receive only the daily deal, creating a focused text-marketing channel that leverages Twilio Programmable SMS to deliver timely offers to shoppers.
