Understands And Detects Parkinson's One Call At A Time With Twilio Voice

Parkinson’s Voice Initiative (PVI), founded by mathematician Max Little, uses mathematical analysis of the human voice to detect and monitor Parkinson’s disease. The challenge was to collect high-quality, scalable voice samples from a global, often elderly population with a low barrier to entry; earlier local telephony setups were unreliable and couldn’t provide the global reach or accuracy needed.

PVI implemented Twilio Voice to provide local phone numbers, multilingual prompts and cloud-based recording so participants could submit 20–30 second vowel samples by phone. The solution delivered a 100% call capture rate, more than 10,000 recordings collected, and access to millions via local numbers, enabling faster, cheaper data collection and accelerating Parkinson’s research.
