ScribbleChat Fills The Valley Between GIFS and Text using Twilio Programmable Chat

ScribbleChat is a handwriting‑style messaging app (think Bitmoji for texts) founded by Trey Stout to fill the gap between plain text and GIFs, letting users send animated, personalized handwritten messages and drawings. The challenge was to deliver those stylized, animated messages reliably and in real time while preserving a full‑featured chat experience.

ScribbleChat integrated Twilio Programmable Chat so incoming messages trigger a Swift→JS flow that reads message attributes (plaintext, sender, graphical effects) and renders the animation; two developers completed the integration in three days thanks to clear docs. The result is a robust, real‑time chat that reliably delivers drawings, text and GIFs and elevates conversational engagement—building on the personalized‑mail success of Handwriting.io.
