In The Wake Of A Disaster, Team Comeback Kids Gets Students The School Supplies They Need

Twilio partnered with Team Comeback Kids (part of Thomas Morstead’s What You Give Will Grow) during the catastrophic August 2016 Louisiana floods, when low-income families urgently needed school supplies for the new school year. Faced with pallets of donations that had to be distributed over a single weekend and limited manpower, the organization needed a fast, reliable way to mobilize volunteers.

Using Twilio-powered Frontline SMS, the team sent a single text blast and recruited the 30 volunteers they needed within ten minutes, enabling the distribution of over $1 million in supplies and more than 9,500 backpacks in time for the first day of school. The high open and response rates of SMS versus email proved decisive, and the success has spurred efforts to give other nonprofits the same fast communication tools.
