A Twilio Case Study
Tyler Technologies, a long-established provider of software for government agencies, set out to make municipal courts easier to use for constituents who can’t appear in person—people who can’t take time off work, arrange childcare, or travel to court. As the team was developing a virtual court platform, the COVID-19 pandemic created an urgent need to reduce in-person hearings and preserve court operations while maintaining access to justice.
The company rapidly launched Tyler Virtual Court, using Twilio APIs (messaging, voice, chat, video) and SendGrid for invitations and summaries to power reminders, IVR, document sharing and secure virtual hearings. A working prototype enabled quick client testing and an accelerated rollout during the pandemic; by May 2020 dozens of courts were onboarded (21 live), reporting faster case resolution, fewer ad hoc workarounds, and improved convenience and scalability for courts and constituents.
