How Gpnow Helped Give Rise To The Success Of Telehealth In The Asia Pacific Region With Twilio

GPNow, founded in 2017 by Robert Hicken, is a patient‑centric telehealth platform operating in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore that set out to improve care in both central and remote communities. The company’s challenge was to deliver reliable, diagnostic‑quality video over low‑bandwidth connections so clinicians could provide effective care during crises (bushfires, COVID‑19) and for vulnerable groups such as spinal‑cord injury patients, aged‑care residents and Aboriginal communities.

By partnering with Twilio Programmable Video, GPNow implemented HD, low‑bandwidth video consultations that enabled rapid crisis responses and expanded access to specialists. The platform now supports 1,250+ consultations per month, has served 500+ patients and onboarded 75+ clinicians, powering initiatives like BushFireCare and CoronavirusCare.net and paving the way for multi‑screen and ambulance‑to‑hospital integrations.
