EpicNPC is a leading online marketplace for gamers with 495,000 members and about 300,000 monthly visitors. Rapid growth brought a surge of banned users and scammers trying to access the site, so EpicNPC needed stronger account validation and fraud prevention than their previous phone verification provider could offer.
They implemented Twilio Phone Verification (integration took about a day or two) and now require phone verification before registration. Twilio’s richer data and ability to block VoIP reduced verification complaints from about five per day to nearly zero, and EpicNPC verified 36,000 members in three months without slowing growth. The site continues to scale—recently passing 5 million posts and 1 million unique sales—and plans to add further two-factor authentication.
