Banno provides online and mobile banking platforms for hundreds of community banks and credit unions, but faced the challenge of modernizing account security as consumers demanded convenient, mobile-first experiences and traditional security questions proved inadequate against breaches and account takeovers. Customer and regulatory expectations made two-factor authentication (2FA) a required element of enrollment and high-risk transactions.
Banno integrated the Twilio Authy API to offer SMS, voice, and app-based 2FA—white‑labeled per bank—while hardening APIs, adding rate limits, and using Authy’s management console for monitoring and troubleshooting. The result is a streamlined, secure enrollment that asks for less customer data, stronger protection for high-value transactions, low support volume and high uptime, and flexible controls that support ongoing security improvements.
