Case Study: Avon & Somerset Constabulary achieves rapid, targeted community alerts with Twilio SMS & Voice

A Twilio Case Study

Preview of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary Case Study

Avon and Somerset Constabulary communicate with thousands of UK citizens via the Twilio API

Avon and Somerset Constabulary needed a simpler, mobile-first way for officers to keep communities—Neighbourhood Watch, Farm Watch and other residents—informed and safe. Relying on multiple platforms was time-consuming, risked vendor lock-in and didn’t suit people (like farmers) who prefer SMS or officers who need on-the-move access.

The force built a single Community Alerts platform using Twilio SMS and Voice APIs: a responsive web interface with one database that lets officers send targeted texts, emails or voice messages from a mobile device in just a few clicks. Adoption was rapid; in the first months the service sent thousands of messages and used 10,106 minutes of voice, with ongoing strong uptake and reported results (70K, 10K+, 2.5M).
