Atma Connect’s AtmaGo is a neighborhood-focused social networking app that helps underserved urban communities in Indonesia share real-time information. During monsoon season massive floods routinely threaten lives and property, and government early warning systems often fail to reach the poorest, while most people do have mobile phones—creating a need for a more reliable, last-mile alert channel.
AtmaGo integrated Twilio Programmable SMS to deliver urgent, locally relevant flood warnings (including PetaJakarta alerts) directly to users’ phones, bypassing inconsistent internet access. The result: rapid, dependable reach—AtmaGo grew to 260,000 users (600% growth from 2015–2016), sent 42,741 Twilio-powered SMS alerts in 2016, helped some 54,500 people stay informed, and could reduce Jakarta-area flood damages by an estimated $28–85 million per incident.
