Teesside University advances flexible electronics with TWI in a 3-year Horizon 2020 project

Teesside University, in partnership with TWI, established the Healthcare Innovation Centre (HIC) to foster innovation in health and social care. The challenge was to harness the potential of functional electronics to strengthen Europe's position in digital manufacturing and create sustainable, next-generation wearable and diagnostic devices.

TWI’s Technology Innovation Management team helped develop the SusFE project proposal, securing EU Horizon 2020 funding. The solution was a new roll-to-roll manufacturing platform, leading to prototypes like a smart wound monitoring bandage and a blood self-sampling device. Through TWI's support, the project created sustainable digital solutions expected to enhance the EU's competitiveness in key global markets.
