A Twenty Ideas Case Study
TrueMotif, a social impact startup from the University of Oregon, aimed to scale its proven prenatal health coaching program to reach millions of at-risk, low-income pregnant people. Their challenge was to transform a proof-of-concept into a fully functioning and scalable Android app that could authentically simulate conversations with a health coach to help reduce birth complications. They partnered with vendor Twenty Ideas to design and develop this mobile application.
Twenty Ideas developed the GrowMotif Android app, which uses an avatar counselor and features like typing indicators and response delays to create an authentic, human-like messaging experience. The solution included a robust and flexible infrastructure built to scale and adapt for future health programs. The result was a successfully launched app on the Google Play Store, paving the way for a national WIC rollout. The program has been shown to make users nearly 6x less likely to deliver preterm and nearly 12x less likely to deliver a low birthweight infant.
