Case Study: Verbund de-risks BESS deployment and scaling with TWAICE Digital Commissioning

A TWAICE Case Study

Verbund scales toward 1 GW of BESS with TWAICE Digital Commissioning

VERBUND, Austria's leading electricity company, faced significant challenges in commissioning its growing fleet of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The conventional process, which relied on a measurement service provider and physical equipment, was costly, time-consuming, and difficult to scale. Furthermore, working with different system integrators made it challenging to obtain standardized, comparable performance data at the beginning of a system's life, increasing risk as VERBUND planned to scale to 1 GW of capacity by 2030.

TWAICE addressed these challenges with its Digital Commissioning service. This solution provided VERBUND with a standardized, hardware-independent report that delivered key performance indicators, enabling independent verification of manufacturer data and easy comparison across different BESS assets. The results included the identification of critical anomalies like weak cells and cooling issues, allowing for warranty claims and module replacements before commercial operation began. This de-risked VERBUND's scaling efforts, saving potential downtime and financial penalties. TWAICE's Digital Commissioning provided a scalable, efficient solution essential for VERBUND's ambitious deployment goals.
