Case Study: VERBUND achieves scalable, standardized battery commissioning with TWAICE

A TWAICE Case Study

How VERBUND used TWAICE to de-risk deployment & scaling of energy storage systems

VERBUND, Austria's leading electricity company, faced significant challenges in commissioning its growing portfolio of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The traditional process was costly, time-consuming, and reliant on external measurement equipment. With plans to install 1 GW of capacity by 2030, VERBUND needed a standardized, scalable way to verify performance at the beginning of a system's life, especially as different manufacturers used varying methods to calculate key metrics.

TWAICE addressed this with its Digital Commissioning service, which requires only an online connection and no additional hardware. The solution provided VERBUND with standardized, comparable KPIs, enabling them to independently verify manufacturer data and identify anomalies like weak cells and cooling issues. For TWAICE, this resulted in early detection of warranty claims, prevention of future downtime, and a scalable process that supports VERBUND's ambitious deployment goals without the rising costs of conventional commissioning.
