JCB - Customer Case Study

JCB, one of the world’s largest construction and agricultural machinery manufacturers, needed to bring a fully electric mini excavator to market quickly to meet tighter emissions regulations and growing demand for indoor and urban work. To meet a short development timeline and stringent requirements for voltage, compact lightweight batteries, and fast-charging, JCB partnered with Turntide Technologies, which supplied four Hyperdrive lithium‑ion battery packs sized to the vehicle.

Turntide Technologies delivered a 20 kWh battery solution (4 × 5 kWh packs, 44 V nominal) that preserved the diesel model’s performance while enabling zero-emission, much quieter operation and extended use in urban and indoor sites. The result allowed JCB to enter the electric mini excavator market early, advance its sustainability goals, offer 7 dBA lower noise for expanded operating hours, and maintain matched productivity with measurable environmental and operational benefits.
