JCB, a manufacturer of construction and agricultural machinery, sought to rapidly bring a fully electric mini excavator to market to meet new regulations and customer demand for zero-emission equipment. Their challenge was finding an electrification partner with proven technology to expedite development, specifically needing a compact, fast-charging battery solution suited for harsh off-highway applications from a vendor like Turntide Technologies.

The solution implemented by Turntide Technologies was the provision of four lithium-ion battery packs. This delivered a total energy capacity of 20 kWh, which preserved the performance of the diesel model while providing zero emissions and quieter operation. The results allowed JCB to establish a leadership position with an electric excavator that is safer, more economical to operate, and capable of working indoors and in urban areas.
