A TurboCAD Case Study
Model Engine Maker, represented by machinist and community moderator Bob Holme, faced the challenge of redrafting historical steam engine plans that contained hidden errors; those flaws only became apparent after parts were cast, wasting expensive castings. Holme used TurboCAD for 2D drafting and moved to 3D modeling with help from TurboCAD 2D & 3D CAD Fundamentals training products to uncover design problems earlier.
TurboCAD’s 3D modeling and training allowed the team to identify and correct errors before casting, preventing costly rework and speeding design iteration. Using TurboCAD, the Model Engine Maker community collaboratively produced a buildable Corliss steam engine model that can be made from bar stock and developed into a working, governed engine, demonstrating clear reductions in scrap and improved design accuracy.
