Alfred Wegener Institute - Customer Case Study

The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) engaged in developing MANTAS (Maneuverable Active New Towed Atmospheric System), a new aircraft‑towed measuring platform for Arctic, oceanic and varied terrain research and operational tasks. To design this complex towed research vehicle and produce detailed construction documentation, AWI collaborated with TurboCAD and the TurboCAD Training Center, using TurboCAD Pro Platinum as the chosen CAD solution.

TurboCAD Training Center used TurboCAD Pro Platinum to produce the MANTAS design and detail its construction processes; the final design met all set performance parameters and conformed to the program’s requirements. Thanks to TurboCAD’s versatility and ease of use, the project delivered a validated towable research vehicle capable of supporting scientific measurements (trace gases, turbulence, low clouds, biological sampling) and commercial missions (SAR, pollution and plume detection, radiation monitoring), with documented designs ready for construction.
