Case Study: Reprieve Cardiovascular de-risks heart failure clinical development with Truveta

A Truveta Case Study

Preview of the Reprieve Cardiovascular Case Study

De-risking clinical development and driving therapeutic innovation for heart failure

Reprieve Cardiovascular, a clinical-stage startup focused on decongestion for heart failure, needed a way to de-risk its pivotal clinical study and better understand contemporary inpatient standards of care. To do that, the company partnered with Truveta and used its complete, timely, regulatory-grade EHR data to access a contemporary, nationally representative real-world dataset with the clinical depth needed for complex heart failure research.

Using Truveta Data, Reprieve and academic collaborators built the TREAT-AHF registry to study acute heart failure decongestion patterns, patient characteristics, and predictors of weight loss across more than 260,000 hospitalizations. The analysis showed that decongestion remains suboptimal, with median inpatient weight loss of 5.3 pounds, 60.6% of patients discharged at or above baseline weight, and more than 30% experiencing worsening renal function; it also identified increased use of newer therapies such as ARNi and SGLT2i. Truveta helped Reprieve publish two JACC: Heart Failure manuscripts and improve trial planning by estimating enrollment and outcomes, including analysis of 165K ADHF patient journeys and 10K patients as a concurrent real-world control alongside a pilot RCT.
