Subway sought full supply-chain visibility and lot-level traceability after several large recalls, aiming for real-time, accurate decisions and greater transparency for customers. To meet that challenge Subway partnered with Trustwell to deploy an enterprise traceability program built on GS1 Standards (GTINs, GLNs), GDSN-synchronized product data, and case-level identification.

Trustwell implemented a solution enforcing GTIN/GLN adoption, GDSN master-data synchronization, GS1-128 case labeling, and case-lot capture across suppliers and distributors, supported by an online tracking portal. Results include a successful pilot in November 2015, 74% of product volume now with GS1-128 barcodes, 46% of the distribution system committed to case lot capture, and an estimated ~$1M annual savings from improved data quality—improving recall readiness, inventory accuracy and customer transparency for Subway.
